Michael Baister met Damien Baglee, who was swimming the channel for charity, at a media event for the Great North Swim. Baister had the idea to shoot some editorial style shots of Baglee in the water.
The lighting on the shot is interesting, the water and sky showing depth and movement through the amount of shadows and highlights in both. The water adds to the definition of the subject through the reflections of the water on the body. Extra movement also seems to have been created in the water, creating a different texture.
To get the shots, Baister went into the water, taking the light in too. This allows the images to be closer and allows the subject to create a connection with the camera. The image also seems to be an HDR, the sky looking very textured and interesting while the image remains exposed correctly, rather than underexposed.
